Constipation Remedies and How to Get Rid of Constipation
Constipation is a common problem of the digestive area. If the bowels do not move regularly or are not completely emptied and even after moving; you are constipated. Pain or heaviness in the abdomen, loss of appetite, drowsiness, nausea, pain in the lower legs and vertigo are some of the well known symptoms of constipation. Constipation leads to many diseases.
Following are few remedies of constipation – Dietary fiber – Increase the intake of fruit and vegetables (minimum of five servings of fruit or vegetables daily) to your diet. It is known to be the best way of adding fiber. Fiber supplements can also be used.
1. Hyperosmolar laxatives – These are indigestible, unobservable compounds. Hyperosmolar laxatives remain within the colon and preserve the water that already is in the colon. This results in softening of the stool. The most common hyperosmolar laxatives are lacunose, orbital, and polyethylene glycol and most importantly, these are available by prescription only. These laxatives has few side effects and considered to be safe for prolong use.
2. Lubricant laxatives- These contain mineral oil which resides within the intestine. It coats the particles of stool and apparently controls the removal of water from the stool which results in the stool to go softer. Since the long term use of mineral oil has several disadvantages, it is only used for the short-term healing of constipation. It can attract fat-soluble vitamins (from the intestine). If it is used for long periods, there can be vitamin deficiencies.
3. Stool softeners – these are also called emollient laxatives which contain a compound which is a wetting agent called decussate. It betters the capability of water in the colon to go through and merge with stool. Thus the higher water (in the stool) leads to the softening of the stool. These are generally used in the long-term healing of constipation. It can take around a week’s time or more for decussate to be helpful. But even after you see no effect, the dose should be increased. These are generally used when stool has to soften for short duration. For example after childbirth, surgery, or heart attack.
4. Saline laxatives – These contain magnesium hydroxide, magnesium citrate and sodium phosphate which are non-absorbable ions. While remaining in the colon, these ions help water to be strained into the colon and help soften of the stool. These laxatives act very quickly but it is not recommended to use them on regular basis. Dehydration may occur due to the development of diarrhea with the use of this laxative. Milk of magnesia is the most regularly used and stronger of the saline laxatives.
You can adapt a number of lifestyle changes as a remedy for constipation. They are as follows -
A) Get up early in the morning and go for a walk daily.
B) Avoid tight clothes or belts. These can hold back your digestive system.
C) Limit intake of tobacco, tea, coffee and hot spices.
D) Don’t take daily naps and especially within 3 hours of eating.
E) Fast at least once in a week.
F) Make a schedule and stick to it because schedules work well with your body’s natural body clock.
G) Exercise regularly for at least 20-25 minutes daily.

Constipation Remedies
Constipation is a major irritable, sickening and debilitating condition, when one experiences insufficient evacuation of the bowel, and dry or painful passing of stool. It is extremely annoying and embarrassing. Constipation is a common health complication that originates in the digestive tract. The symptoms of this complication may include irregular bowel movement, insufficient emptiness of bowel etc. The most common among all symptoms of constipation is infrequent, irregular or difficult removal of the hard fecal matter. Difficulties of constipation include hemorrhoids (which are caused by straining to have a bowel movement) and anal fissures (which are tears in the skin around the anus). Causes Constipation occurs when the large intestine sucks up too much water from the stool to make it dry and hard or the bowel walls cannot contract adequately to pass the stool and waste products along fast enough.
The causes of constipation are many. There are a host of factors that contribute to what causes constipation. One of the most common is poor diet. A diet full of processed foods and few fiber sources is a recipe for constipation problems. A lack of water also contributes to constipation. Dehydration directly affects the consistency of stool. Too little water makes stool harder to pass and leads to constipation. A lack of exercise can also lead to constipation. Incorporating daily exercise into your routine will help your bowels function properly. There are also many well-known benefits to exercise including improved heart rate, weight control and mood balance. Poor lifestyle habits can also be a cause of constipation. Inactivity and lack of exercise are often associated with constipation. You don’t have to run marathons or spend hours a day at the gym. A short walk or taking up the sport you enjoy are great ways to increase your activity level and have a positive effect on your constipation.
It is essential, not only to your overall health, but also in the prevention of constipation that you eat a healthy diet and exercise regularly. A healthy diet consists of fresh fruits and vegetable, foods high in fiber, and foods that provide Omega-3 fatty acids. Your healthy lifestyle should also include planning your meals and maintaining a daily schedule for eating. Eating on a schedule will help your digestive system to stay on a regular schedule, which will aid in the prevention of constipation. Pears are considered as one of the best home remedies for constipation problem. Only one single pear taken at the time of dinner or breakfast can do all the wonder in normal case. However, for the chronic constipation problem, one may need to eat one pear regularly or may drink pear juice everyday to get rid off the problem.
Bael fruit is truly popular for its ability to combat constipation. If you are suffering from constipation problem and would like to count on Bael fruit while looking for a cure to constipation, you need to use this fruit in its raw form regularly, for at least 2 to 3 months of time, prior to either breakfast or meal. Grapes are truly effective in treating constipation in addition to providing nutritional benefits. With its outstandingly delicious and sophisticated flavor, grapes offer an excellent solution for constipation treatment of both sorts, temporary and chronic.

Constipation Remedies: Home Remedies for Constipation
Constipation refers to the malfunctioning of digestive system and bowel movements.
Constipation not only leads to a general feeling of malaise but because the body becomes toxic can actually cause or exacerbate many ailments, including thumping headaches, spots, hypertension, heartburn, catarrh, arthritis and rheumatism. It can also make you extremely bad tempered. The simplest answer is to ensure that you eat a high fibre diet including fresh fruit and vegetables, particularly apples, pears and strong greenstuffs, plenty of live yoghurt and drink lots of fresh water. Cut down on refined foods, red meat, coffee and tea. Particularly avoid convenience and junk foods.
The most common causes of constipation are a poor diet, stress or the lack of the exercise and fresh air.
The oldest and simplest suggestions for a regular movement of the bowels varied from taking a glass of cold water morning and night, conversely, taking a hot drink and pipeful of tobacco after breakfast.
Cold baths daily vied in popularity with the 15 second icy cold sitz bath, whilst gentler souls fell back on the back on the old standby a spoonful of honey each morning or the ever-faithful ‘apple a day’.

Constipation Remedies Using Vegetables
Here are more constipation remedies using vegetables. Use vegetables every day for good health. When you have constipation then you want to eat more vegetables and fruits than normal. After you clear your constipation, them back off from eating excess vegetables and just eat what you need to prevent constipation.
Carrots, Cabbage and Raisins
Because carrots contain fiber, they help to form a good stool and promote peristaltic action. By combining carrots with cabbage and raisins, you can create an even more powerful food that will help in relieving constipation. Combine the following vegetables to form an evening salad:
” Chopped carrots
” Shredded cabbage (raw or slightly steamed)
” Romaine lettuce
” Cauliflower
” Cucumbers
” A handful raisins
” Sprinkle a tablespoon of grounded flax seeds
” Mix in 1 – 2 tablespoons of olive oil or more
” Mix in 1 tablespoon of flax seed oil
” Mix in 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar or more
” One tablespoon of lecithin granules
Eat this salad once or twice a day for three days. After that you should continue to eat a vegetable salad for lunch or dinner. Make sure to drink plenty of water when eating more fiber.
Carrot and Spinach Juice
Combine 10 oz of carrot and 6 oz of spinach juice. Drink two pints daily. Both these vegetables have nutrients to help relieve your constipation.
Cucumber
Cucumbers are good for preventing constipation. But they can be used in the carrot-spinach juice or the apple-spinach juice. Cucumbers make these juices more powerful. Use only about ¼ – ½ of a cucumber when adding it to these juices. You can experiment with how much cucumber you want to add.
Cucumbers are a natural diuretic and help to dissolve kidney stones. Because they are high in potassium, they help to promote the flexibility of colon cells. This helps to keep your colon working, as it should.
Cabbage and Asparagus
Cabbage is high in fiber and contains a good amount of potassium, foliate, beta-carotene and many other nutrients – bioflavonoids, indoles, genistein, monoterpenes. It is these various chemicals that give it its potent ability to reduce or prevent colon cancer and heal various ulcers along the gastrointestinal tract.
Cabbage is anti-bacterial and helps to heal tissues in the stomach, intestines, and colon.
Drinking cabbage juice produces intestinal gas. This gas occurs when cabbage juices combine with putrefied layers in the intestines and colon.
Use little or no salt on any preparation of cabbage. Salt destroys the nutritional value of cabbage.
There are many forms of cabbage you can use for your juices – green, red, savoy, bok choy
Asparagus
Asparagus are also high in fiber. They also provide foliate and vitamins A and C. Refrigerate asparagus quickly if you are not going to use them and keep them for 3 days or less. Asparagus that have not been refrigerated lose their nutritional value quickly.
People with gout should not eat asparagus since they contain purines that can start a gout attack.
Steam your cabbage and asparagus with a slight amount of water for 3-4 minutes or less. Eat just before going to bed and take some digestive enzymes to help digest this food.

Get Regular With This Constipation Remedy Guide
Finding an effective constipation remedy that will help relieve the pain can seem quite daunting for those who regularly suffer from constipation. Constipation is a condition where a person has difficulty moving their bowels and there are a number of ways in which it can be diagnosed such as a physical examination, colorectal transit study, anorectal function tests, barium enema x-ray, and sigmoidoscopy or through a colonoscopy.
However there are number of constipation remedies around which should hopefully help to improve the situation as well as remove the problem.
A good one to use is to train your bowel. If you can attempt to have a bowel movement at the same time each day (preferably first thing in the morning) as this is when your colon activity is at its highest and you can practice this quite easily.
Ensure that you improve your eating habits but including plenty of high fiber foods (cereals), and lots of fresh fruit and vegetables. It is important that if you suffer from constipation you limit the amount of ice cream, cheese, meat and processed foods that you consume.
Drink plenty of water (about 1.5-2 litres each day) and avoid those drinks which can cause dehydration such as coffee and alcohol.
Also take up some form of regular exercise and not only will it help to alleviate the problems associated with constipation it will provide you with other health benefits as well.
However, if you find that are still not having regular bowel movements even if you have made the changes above then you wish to consider using a bulk forming laxative such Psyllium or Methylcellulose and they can be used for a long time without any side effects.
There are also other medications that can be used to remedy constipation such as Hyprosmotics, Lactulose, Polyethylene Glycol, Glycerin and Sorbital as well as salines like Magnesium Hydroxide, Magnesium Citrate and Sodium Phosphate.
However if you have found that neither of the above methods work for you then you may try such medications as Anthraquinones such as Cascara Sagrada, Emollients such as Docusates, Senna and Mineral Oil. There are also stimulants such as Phenolphthalein, Castor Oil or Bisacodyl which may also help to remedy the problems associated with constipation but such medications as these need to be used under strict supervision of a doctor or healthcare worker and only as a short term measure as most of these have some side effects.
People who are using laxatives should discontinue use slowly and after some time the colon will be restored to its normal working balance.
Finally, you should only use enemas or suppositories as an emergency treatment and if all else fails then surgery may be your only alternative.

Constipation Remedy Using Citrus Juice
Citrus Juices
Citrus juices are a constipation remedy that is an excellent way to stimulate your colon and other parts of the body. Since your colon is less active at night, drinking juices as soon as you awaken and get up can stimulate strong peristaltic action and promote a bowel movement.
Lemons
Lemons are filled with minerals, especially potassium, Vitamin C, and bioflavonoid. They have a cleansing action for the entire body.
Fresh lemon juice is the king of fruit juices. It contains citric acid, which acts in the body in a way no other juice does. First it acts on the liver to build up its enzymes so it can detoxify toxins in the blood. Then it combines with calcium to form soluble chemical substances. This makes it effective in removing kidney and pancreatic stones, pluck build up along artery walls, and other calcium deposits that occur in the body.
When the liver, gallbladder, and pancreas are not working right, food digestion is affected. This in turn will create constipation.
Use lemons moderately since they break up oils during digestion and in our body they make oils less available to our cells and joints.
If you have lemon allergies or ulcers then you should avoid lemon juice. If you have arthritis lemons are not a good choice.
Here’s what to do:
Squeeze one lemon into a glass of warm distilled water. Drink it first thing when you wake up. Don’t drink anything else for at least 1/2 hour
You can use a citrus press to juice the lemon or just squeeze it to get the juice out.
Grapefruit Juice
Another constipation remedy you can use is drinking a glass of fresh squeezed grapefruit first thing in the morning. Again wait at least 1/2 hour before you eat anything.
If you are taking any anticonvulsant drugs, birth control pills, estrogen, protease inhibitors and even other types of drugs avoid drinking grapefruit juice. It slows the breakdown of certain drugs allowing them to increase in the blood to dangerous levels.
Grapefruit and Orange Juice
One drink I like in the morning is a combination of grapefruit and orange juice. Just prepare a half and half drink of these citrus fruits and drink it first thing in the morning.
